In the district Achter de Hoven, the Hoftuinen organisation has laid out 6 spice bins which are public herb gardens that are maintained by the residents and everyone can pick from them. These are done to strengthen the concept of sustainability and community as well as to make people aware of the importance of the harmony between humans and nature.
In addition to this, on the railway crossings in the district, the locals, in collaboration with the Hoftuinen a small garden is laid with butterfly bushes to draw butterflies and insects to the wonderfully scented flowers. This contributes to the biodiversity and the face of the residents and the municipality of Leeuwarden. The Hoftuinen organisation is also developing these gardens across the city and perhaps the Potmarge may become one of them.
What is more perfect than bonding with your neighbours through a little gardening?
